It with a heavy heart to bring you this news. This week, Manchester said goodbye to one of its most cherished publicans. Nancy passed away peacefully at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond one of the city's most famous pubs. There are pubs, and then there are institutions. In Manchester, few places deserve that title more than The Peveril of the Peak. With its unmistakable green-tiled exterior standing proudly against a skyline that has transformed around it, "The Pev" has welcomed generations of locals, visitors, musicians, workers, football fans, and curious tourists through its doors. But for more than half a century, the true heart of The Pev wasn't the building. It was Nancy Swanick. See the Trafford & Hulme website for the full obituary. T&H “looked after” the Pev until this new Branch was formed in 2016.
Nancy pictured with her award of a CAMRA Certificate for 50 years as Manchester’s longest serving landlady. It was due to be presented in 2020 but COVID had other ideas! It was presented after COVID. Nancy was chuffed!

The Cider Pub of The Year 2026 is Marble Arch, presentation was made on 6th June to General manager Becky Holden by Branch Chair Sean 
Best newcomer 2026 award Steelfish Brewing Company Taproom with the presentation om Thursday 25th June at 1900.
Our Club of the Year (COTY) 2026 - our first ever entry! - is the FC United of Manchester Presenting the award is our Branch Chair Sean O'Mahoney to Jim Brunt who is a actually a CAMRA Member from Kirklees Branch!

Marble Arch. MCR City Planning Committee REJECT the proposals by the developers! Following a public consultation by the developers, McGoff, that they seem to have ignored, a planning application was submitted. Little surprise that they still intended to build a 17 storey apartment block within 3 meters of the Marble Arch (MA).The planning committee have rejected the proposal. So we wait and see what the next move by the developers will be, if any! Hopefully, they have “read the room”!
The revised plan removed a substantial area of high quality landscaped public land.

Changing your branch communications
When you first join CAMRA, you’re membership will be allocated to a local branch according to your postcode. This will usually be the branch who’s area you live in, but occasionally due to the way postcodes don’t always follow branch boundaries, it may be a neighbouring branch.
If you are not receiving e-mails from your local branch, you may be opted out of branch communication. Click here to find out how to change your communication preferences.
If you live near the edges of a branch area or some distance from the main centre of the branch, your local branch may not be the most convenient for attending meetings or social events.
You have two options to find out about another branch’s activities.
a) Move your membership To change your primary branch to another branch, e-mail ku.gro.armac@pihsrebmem including your membership number, your current branch and the name of the branch you want to move your membership to.
b) Subscribe to other branch’s communications To do this you need to log in to the CAMRA website at camra.org.uk
