Get your community pub on TV!

Get your community pub on TV!

A new BBC2 series in which Tom Kerridge helps struggling community pubs to survive. In each episode Tom, the landlord and local people would work together to find possible solutions to place the pub back at the heart of the community it serves.

The series would put some of the contemporary challenges facing the British pub under the microscope to explore why so many pubs have closed in recent decades and find out what can be done to save this much-loved British institution.

We are interested in filming one of the episodes in the greater Manchester area and if any of the pubs in our region are interested they’re welcome to call to discuss on 0117 906 4321 or email casting@bonesoup.co.uk we are hoping to film this autumn so it would be great to hear from them ASAP.

Manchester Pubs make the Camra top 100

CAMRA recently compiled it’s list of 100 British pubs to visit this summer, based on feedback from the branch, the following pubs have made it in to the CAMRA top 100:

CITY Centre pub to visit

The Marble Arch Inn, Manchester – this is the destination pub in Manchester on the edge of the city centre with a magnificent interior and Marble ales.

History-laden pub to visit

Sir Ralph Abercromby, Manchester – close to the site of the Peterloo massacre, this pub features a mural representing the massacre – a timely inclusion as it marks the 200th anniversary this year on 16 August.

Pub with a great view

Wharf, Manchester – for some urban, post-industrial views head to the Wharf, which has an excellent raised patio overlooking the Castlefield canal basin filled with canal boats, surrounded by converted warehouses and to the left viaducts with tram and train tracks on different levels

Unicorn Hotel achieves Grade II listed status

Congratulations to Kirsten and her team at the Unicorn hotel on Church Street, on being added to the List of buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.

The original features of the building are evident throughout, keeping alive the history and heritage of this great pub.

Welcome to the Summer of Pub

Welcome to the Summer of Pub

If your idea of a perfect British summer involves a pint and a pub-garden, then you’re in luck. Our latest campaign is all about visiting your local – and getting involved is as easy as grabbing a pint!

The aim of Summer of Pub is simple – we want more people socialising at the pub this summer. Take a photo of yourself at your local using the hashtag #SummerofPub to show your support!

If you’re a publican in the Manchester area, get in touch and let us know what events you’ve got planned for the summer and we’ll feature them on this website and our social media channels!

It’s that time of year when the spring sun is shining and the orchards are in bloom! What could be better than to enjoy a refreshing glass of cider or perry whilst enjoying the spring.

You can find out where to drink a great glass of real cider or perry in our Cider section.

Here at Central Manchester Camra, we’re getting ourselves ready for a couple of events coming up in the area:

Runaway Brewery 5th Birthday Bash*

Saturday 25th May – 3.30pm

*I know it is not technically a Cider event, but they’ve got some fantastic ciders coming – check out the tasting notes below

There are a limited number of tickets still available for this event so get yours quickly! This truly is a this unique mix of drinks and is unlikely to be repeated – some are sold out rarities – others not available in Manchester – some not on sale in UK.

If that’s not enough, then the very next day…

Fairfield Cider Fête takes place on Sunday 26th May at Fairfield Social Club, Archway 6, Temperance St, M12 6HR,

There are two sessions, one daytime (12pm-5pm) and one evening (6pm-11pm) session.

Fairfield Cider Fête is Manchester’s only dedicated craft cider festival, and you’ll be able to try over 90 ciders created by over 20 producers.

Ciders available will range from the traditional apple, pear, elderflower and even a lemonade perry.

GRUB have teamed up with Hogan’s Cider, to curate a line-up of ciders and producers including Ketish Pip, Turners, Pure North, Tiny Rebel and Cotswold Cider Co.

This year the cider will be accompanied by street food on site, so you can get fed at the same time as sampling the many ciders available.

You’ll have to get tickets for this event, but everyone is welcome including families and dogs. There are only 250 tickets available per session, priced £5.87.
